Drunk driver escapes with slight injury only

A 28-year-old drunk driver escaped with slight injuries after he lost control over his vehicle in Baar in the early hours of Thursday morning. Miraculously, his female passenger was not injured at all.

The incident happened shortly before 2.30 am as the driver approached the centre of the municipality from Zug on Dorfstrasse at high speed. As he did so, he clipped a concrete pillar, then a set of traffic lights and finally a lamp post, causing his car to flip over near the junction with Bahnhofstrasse. Although the car ended up on its roof, the driver sustained only a slight injury to his hand while, as mentioned, his passenger escaped without any injuries at all.

When the police arrived, the driver was subjected to a breathalyser test which indicated he had an alcohol level of 140 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood and he was duly taken to hospital for a test to have this confirmed.

Not unsurprisingly, he had his licence confiscated on the spot. Damage to the vehicle and street furniture amounted to several tens of thousands of francs.
