First of two Jazz Nights hailed a great success

Lots of people enjoyed a balmy evening last night listening to the sound of jazz music at a number of locations in the city.

This year marks the 25th year in which the city’s Jazz Nights have taken place and at 7 pm on the dot the first sounds of jazz performed by groups from Switzerland and abroad began to fill the streets of the Old Town and other locations such as Landsgemeindeplatz, Gerbiplatz, Fischmarkt and Schwanenplatz. For those who had still not heard enough, there was the possibility of going to the Restaurant Schiff for the traditional Midnight Jam.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, a special jingle was composed by Mathias Landtwing and duly performed for the first time by the Big Band Zug (second photograph). If you missed it, you will be able to hear it perfomed again this evening by various bands in different locations, though each time with a different arrangement.

As can be seen in the main photograph, which shows Veronika’s Ndiigo band performing on Gerbiplatz, it was not long before locals and visitors filled all the seats at the numerous performances while enjoying good food and drink by the lake side as the music filled the air on this warm late August evening.

“With wonderful concerts directly by the lake shore, cool drinks and a wonderful sunset to boot, what more could one want?” asked 53-year-old Guido Baumgartner of Oberwil.

Susanna Schmidig from Baar waxed lyrical about the setting for this event, with the sounds of jazz filling the narrow streets of the Old Town with its beautiful buildings. “It is all wonderful,” concluded the 48-year-old.

If you missed it, or want to experience it all again, it starts once more at 7 pm this evening.
