Hapimag company to leave its premises in Baar

A ground-breaking ceremony took place on Friday on the industrial zone of Steinhausen for what will be the new headquarters of the Hapimag company.

As Marisabel Spitz, the managing director of the company, which currently operates from Baar, said, “It was important for us to remain in the canton of Zug, after all, the firm was founded here, and out of consideration for our 220 employees, who will not have to move home to be able to keep working with us.”

Hapimag was actually founded in 1963 and, with its 60 resorts in as many as 16 different countries, is the largest provider of holiday accommodation in Europe, its 300,000 members able to choose from no fewer than 5,000 holiday flats. In addition to its staff of 220 in Baar, it employs a further 1,180 around the world.

Also present on the occasion of the ground-breaking ceremony was Giatgen Peder Fontana, the chairman of the board, who explained to the many guests attending that not only was the company celebrating this milestone event, meaning that it would have its own headquarters building for the first time, but also that it was the 53th anniversary since the company was founded.

The new headquarters building on Sumpfstrasse has been designed by the Blue Architects firm of Zurich, whose representative, Thomas Hildebrandt, explained that not only would it be extremely environmentally and totally emission-free but also a state-of-the-art working environment for its employees. Once they have moved there in two years’ time, they will be able to enjoy landscaped grounds, an in-house kindergarten for their children and a bistro to be managed by the Zuwebe organisation, which supports the employment of handicapped people. As to how much this project will cost, the company was unwilling to say.

Speaking in her capacity of mayoress of Steinhausen, Barbara Hofstetter said she was very happy to welcome the Hapimag company to Steinhausen, even though it was not known for being a holiday resort.
