Local breweries receive gold and silver awards for their ales

The Einhorn Brewery of Hünenberg and the Baar Brewery have both been given gold and silver awards for a number of ales they produce on the occasion of the first ever presentation of Swiss Beer Awards.

The Einhorn brewery won a gold award for its “Eichefrässer Ale Blond” and a silver award for its unfiltered Hünenberg lager.

The Brauerei Baar received four gold awards for its “Bügel-Spez”, its “Goldmandli Dunkel”, its “Hopfemandli Lager Hell” and its “Zuger Hirsbeer”, the latter made with locally grown millet. Furthermore, it was given a silver award for its “Erdmandli Amber”.

Speaking as the managing director of the Baar Brewery, Martin Uster (photograph) said it had been a great honour for him and his team be commended in such a way. “The result shows that our products come across in laboratory tests as well as they do in the taste buds of the beer professionals who buy our products,” he said. “This is what motivates us to carry on doing what we do.”

When further questioned by a journalist of the Zuger Zeitung, he said the awards were a written confirmation of the skills which went into their brewing and added, “It is good to see the investment we have put in the brewery over many years is paying off.”

Uster mentioned that he had heard about the results a few days ago but could not quite grasp what a significance they had with it being the first time they had ever been awarded within Switzerland. While there are international brewing competitions, the Baar Brewery has never actually taken part in any of these.

When asked if he was disappointed that the Erdmandli Amber had only won a silver award, he said he was not at all, bearing in mind that no brewery had won gold in this category. He was just as proud of this silver award as he was with all the golden ones.
