Major four-day show-jumping event to start today

A major four-day show-jumping event starts today on Stierenmarkt in the city at which riders could qualify for the Swiss Show-Jumping Championships.

It is two years ago since the Zug Equestrian Association organised its highly successful centenary show-jumping competition but this time the prizes could be even higher with riders having the opportunity on Whit Monday to qualify for entry to the Swiss Show-Jumping Championships. Indeed, as the chairman of the organising committee, Ueli Straub, explained, this means that Zug has now clearly replaced Lucerne as the number-one location for equestrian sport in the whole of central Switzerland.

In common with a lot of equine sporting events, not only is the occasion one for riders and spectators to enjoy but it is also one very much to be seen at. In fact on Saturday the public may well spot dignitaries from the canton's and city's high offices as well as representatives of sponsors such as the Alfred Müller AG company, the Rathauskeller restaurant, Glencore, V-Zug and the Zuger Kantonalbank, to name just a few, on what is known as "Zug Day".

Naturally, there will be no shortage of fine foods and drinks to choose from, with spectators able to choose from a buffet, or, if they prefer, a sit-down meal served by the culinary team of the Rathauskeller.

Furthermore there will be a tombola. In fact if you buy a minimum of 20 tickets one is guaranteed a prize. Children have not been forgotten, either, with free pony-rides available from noon until 4 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Show-jumping enthusiasts will be delighted to know that the current Swiss show-jumping champion, 23-year-old Martin Fuchs, will also be showing off his skills.

Events start as early as 7 am on each of the four days with the main Credit-Suisse-sponsored event taking place at 3.30 pm on Saturday, followed immediately afterwards by the event for the Grand Zug Prize.
