Permission for new multiple dwelling unit next to historic house revoked

Locals may have noticed that building profiles were in place for over a year by the Bründlerhaus (photograph) at number 45 Luzernerstrasse in Cham. These were for a planned new multiple dwelling unit on this site right next to Cham Station though this project as submitted is no longer to go ahead for the moment.

Indeed the profiles have been removed and Rolf Ineichen, head of planning in the municipality explained why. Apparently the council actually gave the green light for the new multiple dwelling unit on 21 October 2014, but as many as 12 people raised objections, not least because they felt the architectural designs of the new building would not fit in with the surrounding area, sited as it was to have been at the edge of a protected area of townscape with a number of listed buildings in close proximity.

The Cantonal Office for the Preservation of Historic Monuments also supported the objections as a result of which permission for the building of the multiple dwelling unit was revoked. The developer behind the project, Michael Fink, is naturally disappointed but he intends to submit a further application.

What is also pertinent to this matter is that on 20 August, the Cantonal Department of Inner-Cantonal Affairs placed protection orders on a number of buildings in the immediate area, namely the Villa Solitude, the bathing house, the boathouse and parts of the Täubmatt park as they were all of regional importance.

What was also planned by the developer, was that the Bündlerhaus was to be moved from its present location to a site next to the villa on the lake shore and it is hoped this will indeed go ahead, ensuring its future. This would also mean there would then be no direct juxtaposition of the attractive Bründlerhaus with the debatable design of any future adjacent development.
