Proposals for changes to 2018 public transport timetable available online

A number of proposed changes to the network and timetabling of public transport services for the year 2018 can now been seen online until 18 June.

Hans-Kaspar Weber, who heads the Cantonal Office of Public Transport, said it was very much worthwhile having a look at the proposed changes, as the travelling public also had the opportunity to make a few suggestions themselves.

The Cantonal Department of Economic Development had already mentioned how it realised that, because of heavy traffic in Cham at peak times, the number 8 bus service between Rotkreuz, Cham, Steinhausen and Baar could not be relied upon, with many passengers missing their connecting services. This had also led to expensive replacement services for buses stuck in traffic having to be provided. A thorough review of this service had led to experts concluding that the line should be broken up into separate ones, hence the current Rotkreuz-Cham service is to be known as the 48 route and will run every 15 minutes via the Bösch industrial zone, linked up to the Cham hub, too, enabling connections to be made with services of the Stadtbahn railway.

This new route 48 from Rotkreuz will continue from Cham station onwards as route 43 to Rumentikon.
The Steinhausen-Baar section of this route will run as route 36, providing services from Baar station to Steinhausen and Sennwied every 15 minutes. However, the current route 16 will still run between Zug, Dammstasse-Steinhausen and Sennwied.

Further examples show that the current number 14 route between Zug, Inwil and Arbach is to be linked up with the number 12 route between Zug and Gimenen, which will mean alterations to the current timetable, though passengers will be able to benefit from half-hourly services on Saturdays.

Equally, the number 52 route between Rotkreuz and Hünenberg is also to be linked up with the number 52 route between Rotkreuz and Küntwil, with half-hourly services planned here, too. This also means onward connections to the Stadtbahn railway and Interregio services between Lucerne, Zug and Zurich from Rotkreuz station. As a result of a request from the municipality of Hünenberg, the Rony quarter there will also be better served.

As to rail services, while it has been public knowledge for some time that the line between Oberwil and Arth and Goldau in the canton of Schwyz is to be closed for two years, it is not known precisely when. Naturally, once this is made public, various replacement bus services will have to be introduced and timetables amended accordingly.

Naturally, all the afore-mentioned changes are just a small selection of many others proposed.
