Restaurant Im Hof plans new bar

The Restaurant Im Hof in the Old Town is planning to open a new lounge on the first floor of its premises later this year.

At present the restaurant can accommodate around 80 people on the ground floor and outdoor area. If planning permission is granted, a 140 square-metre area on the first floor could be opened up, providing enough space for up to 50 more people.

Proprietor Claudio Savi said, "We often have requests for groups of between 20 and 30 people and, if all goes to plan, we will be able to accommodate these in our nice new lounge. The idea is to serve mainly drinks and finger food in this upper area, perhaps just in the evenings initially, though this is not yet certain."

Savi, who has run the Im Hof in Zeughausgasse for the past seven years, also plans to have a billiard table brought in. "This is not something you see so often here. Then we are planning to have a gin bar offering as many as 200 different types, for example from Switzerland, Spain, England and even Chile. These can then be enjoyed in lots of different ways, perhaps with fresh pepper, chili or other spices. We thought of organising tastings, too. While such bars can be found in a number of establishments across Switzerland, as far as we know, this concept is something new for Zug," he said.

If all goes well, work could start on the alteration of the upstairs room in June or July. As the whole façade of the building is also to be renovated, agreement has to be sought with the owners of the building, too. This all means the premises will be closed for a few weeks, but Savi looks forward to re-opening the restaurant and serving gins in the new lounge in the autumn.
