Second man arrested in connection with city knife attack

Following the arrest of an 18-year-old Swiss man, the Zug Police have announced that they have now arrested a second man in connection with the knife attack on a 52-year-old man on the footbridge over General Guisan Strasse between the nearby Commercial Training Centre and Arenaplatz shortly after 6 pm on Thursday 5 January.

This second man, an 17-year-old Serbian national and resident in the neighbouring canton of Argovia, was arrested on Wednesday 18 January. As is usual in relation to cases of juvenile crime, the youth, who has confessed to his involvement in the attack and robbery, will face charges in his home canton, rather than Zug.

The victim, who had to be treated in hospital for cuts he suffered to his hands and face, was robbed of a sum reported to have been just CHF 40. Immediately after the attack he was given initial assistance by an employee of the nearby GG6 restaurant.

Readers may remember that shortly after this incident was initially reported, a woman wrote on Facebook that she had heard of a similar attack in the same location in Zug two weeks earlier. Following a thorough investigation by the Zug Police, this report was found to be totally untrue. Now the woman who posted this message on the internet is to face charges of misleading the course of justice.
