Showing off the canton at its very best

A new 90-second promotional film of Zug was released by the tourist board (ZT) on Wednesday, showing the canton off to its best with shots of the city and lake taken from the air to the accompaniment of a commentary with the sound of a piano and violins in the background.

It may only last for 90 seconds, but it actually took over one year of hard work to put together. It was decided to include four themes in the video, one of which was production of the local cherries, or Zuger Chriesi as they are known in Swiss dialect, with the cameramen filming blossom time in the spring, through to the harvesting of the fruit, kirsch production ensuing in the distilleries, prior to its inclusion in a the mouth-watering cakes, shown being given a dusting of icing sugar. Other themes include the Zuger Rötel (rudd) fish speciality, jewellery being made at the Lohri workshops and fashion as designed by Sara Schlumpf.

The film was actually produced with great falir and imagination by the young enterprise TinCan Media, along with support from the Zug City Development Board.

As Seraina Koller, the managing director of the Zug Tourist Board, explained, the film will be mainly used in online marketing, showing potential tourists why it is worth coming to the canton.

The explanatory commentary comes in five languages so far, but this will be extended to seven over the course of the summer. The producers are particularly proud of the fact that one of the languages used is Romansh, which is also one of Switzerland’s four official languages, spoken by some 20,000 in the canton of Graubünden. This was made possible thanks to cooperation with the Lia Rumantscha (Romansh Language Promotion Board) and RTS, which broadcasts programmes in the language.
